The people’s poet Majit Gafuri bought this desk at the end of the 1920s. At the exhibition, it is located in the living room. During the poet’s lifetime, his son Anvar Gafuri used the desk. There always stood a typewriter, on which he worked: Anvar was a famous journalist and writer. It was at this desk that he printed his memoirs about his father — they were released as a separate book.
Anvar Gafuri was born in 1910 in Ufa. After finishing school, Majit Gafuri took his son to Moscow, where he entered the Moscow Textile Institute, the department of artistic fabrics design. He was good at drawing, and many of his works have been preserved in the family archive — among them there is a self-portrait. In Moscow Anvar began working at the newspaper ‘Kommunist’. However, in 1933, Gafuri Senior’s health deteriorated, and the young man decided to return home and continue his studies in his native town. During the Great Patriotic War Anvar Gafuri volunteered to the front and reached Königsberg in 1945.
After the war, he worked as an editor of musical programs in the Bashkir radio committee. Here Anvar became friends with the composer-folklorist Kamil Rakhimov. They have formed a creative alliance, and together they wrote several songs, including the famous romance ‘I’m Sad about You.’ Anvar Gafuri himself played the piano, sang folk songs and arias from musical dramas. He especially liked Nigmat’s aria from the opera ‘Rabochiy’, the libretto to which was written by his father.
Besides, Anvar Gafuri wrote essays, verses, stories for children, radio plays and prepared for printing memoirs about his father. They were published in the publishing house ‘Kitap’ in the Bashkir language under the title ‘Ataiym’ in 2001. Anvar also often performed at the House-Museum of Majit Gafuri. ‘I often come here; I often come here to talk to visitors about my memories.’ I like to read the entries in the guestbook: ‘Our National Pride! — Tukhvatullina from Tashkent writes. — The museum created in honor of your genius has helped us understand this’, he recalled. Anvar Gafuri died during one of the tours he gave to visiting teachers in 1977.
