Majit Gafuri memorial house-museum, the founder of Bashkir and Tatar literature, was opened in 1948. It is one of the first literary museums in the Republic of Bashkortostan. The house in the Gogol Street, where the exhibition is located today, was given to the poet by the Bashkir government in 1923. Gafuri lived here until his death in 1934.
The living room, the bedroom and the study are reconstructed with authentic furnishings of the poet’s apartment, and the other three rooms have a documentary exposition telling about his life and creative work. The museum building itself is also a monument of architecture of the 19th century. Not only manuscripts and documents, which belonged to Majit Gafuri, but also interior details have been preserved in the house.
