The museum houses Lyubov Yegorova’s sports cap. Lyubov Yegorova is a six-time Olympic champion, an honorary citizen of St. Petersburg and Seversk.
The cone-shaped cap is made of white knitted polyacrylic fabric. It is decorated with green and purple stripes and pattern of pink stylized mountains. A bright pink tassel on a twisted cord of white acrylic threads is sewn to the top of the cap. The bottom is bent inward and stitched; the inner side is made of light terry cotton. The cap was sewn in Austria, from the inside in one of the stitches a label with the name of the country, indication of the manufacturer and trade mark, symbols of proper care of the product, and others are sewn. And to the bottom of the front side of the cap there is an overlay made of white synthetic fabric with a purple inscription ‘ATOMIC // FOR SPORT’.
Lyubov Yegorova was born in Seversk in 1966. At the age of 13, she became interested in skiing and attending the Children’s and Youth Sports School “Yunost”. From 1979 to 1983, Yegorova studied with Nikolai Kharitonov, the honored coach of the USSR. In Seversk, she became the champion of the Tomsk oblast and the Central Council of Physical Culture and Sports.
Yegorova made her international sports debut at the World Cup in the 1983–1984 season, which was held in Czechoslovakia. In the first start in 1984, the athlete finished 14th and won the first cup points. In 1986, Yegorova was taken to the USSR national team. Moreover, the first major achievement of the athlete was two silver and one bronze medals at the 13th Winter Universiade in Czechoslovakia. Next seasons, Yegorova trained a lot and won awards in the World Cups.
For the first time, Yegorova became the world champion in the individual race of the 1991 World Ski Championships. She won the 30 km freestyle marathon in Val di Fiemme, Italy.
At her first Olympic Games in Albertville, Yegorova received medals in all five disciplines. She became a three-time Olympic champion, and won two silver medals: in the classic 5-kilometer race and in the 30-kilometer freestyle marathon. Today, Lyubov Yegorova is the most prominent skier in the country.
The Children’s and Youth Sports School ‘Yunost’, where the athlete began to train, was opened in 1965. In the 1970s–1980s, many first-class athletes trained in the School. In 2005, the school was solemnly named after Lyubov Yegorova.
