Ker-Xavier Roussel
Rural Festival
#3
#2
Ker-Xavier Roussel was also a member of the Nabi art group. In his painting “Rural Festival” he connects a fictitious narrative with a contemporary rustic idyll.
The beautiful image of Mediterranean Arcadia created in the image can be described as a powerful hymn to nature, a heathenish rhapsody to life. This painting was exhibited in the Salon d’Automne in 1911.

About bright colors
#5
When Ivan Morozov purchased it, the artist reworked the painting in brighter colors so that the new version complied with the decorative standards better. The saturated colors of “Rural Festival” render the true spirit of French Mediterranean culture.

About the motif of dance
#7
During the same time period, Roussel decorated the curtains at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, and he used exactly the same motif: dancing en plein air. “Rural Festival” may have been his pilot project before completing the commercial commitment.
