The first wide acquaintance of foreigners with the objects of agricultural, industrial and handicraft production in Russia, with original Russian architecture and fine art took place at the world and international exhibitions of the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The participation of Russia in the exhibitions strengthened the trade relations. The world’s fair held in Rome in 1911 was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the unification of Italy. The exhibitors from Russia, including Gorokhovets, took part in this event.
At the smith shop of Fyodor Pavlovich Osnov the sprung travelling carriage was made, which received the highest award following the results of the exhibition with the presentation of this Grand Prix commemorative token.
The brothers Osnov had the largest smith shop in Gorokhovets and its environs. It was situated at the foot of the Loseva hill, which is located between the village settlement Krasnoe and the city of Gorokhovets. As remembered by the Gorokhovets local historian Nikolai Ivanovich Andreev, the brothers Osnov were the first family in Gorokhovets who became interested in the technologic innovations. It was they who had the first bicycles. The brothers Osnov were the first who began to repair the new equipment, which was still imperfect, and make the copies of such equipment. During the repair work in the attic of the House of Morozov there was found a kids bike, which can be attributed, by the time of manufacture, to the beginning of the 20th century. And it is quite possible that it was made at the smith shop of the brothers Osnov.
In the exposition you can see a copy of the smith shop advertising of Fyodor Pavlovich Osnov. It represents this Grand Prix commemorative token of the World exhibition. It was a kind of quality mark of all products manufactured at these smith shops. The commemorative token was transferred to the National Museum by the daughter of Fyodor Pavlovich Osnov – Olga Fedorovna.
