The photograph depicts the Pushkin City Theater in Krasnoyarsk. It was officially opened on February 17, 1902, and was named after the poet Alexander Pushkin. On the same day, the first performance with a fundraiser for the theater was held on the stage.

However, this was not the first building of the city theater. At the end of the 19th century, it was located in a wooden building, but it completely burned down in 1898 in a fire. Then, in the absence of a permanent professional troupe in the Krasnoyarsk Theater, the troupe of a visiting entrepreneur played on its stage for two seasons. Almost immediately after the fire, there were proposals to have a new building made of stone. For several years, the city had been saving up funds for construction. As a result, the new building was erected on donations from citizens.

Inside the theater, there was a stage, a large auditorium with boxes and a balcony, a spacious lobby, two foyers, several retail premises, and a buffet. The Pushkin City Theater became an important cultural center; its new productions were expected and visited by whole families.

In the same 1902, the drama group of K. P. Krasnova began working here, which marked the beginning of the existence of the permanent Pushkin Theater in Krasnoyarsk. However, it lasted only one season and soon was replaced by other actors.

On September 15, 1902, the theater staged the premiere of the play ‘Guilty without Guilt’ by Alexander Ostrovsky. In 1917, after the revolution, the theater was named ‘The First Krasnoyarsk Workers' Theater’ and later — ‘The First Krasnoyarsk Soviet Theater’. In December 1934, the Krasnoyarsk Territory was formed. In the fall, the theater was again given the name of A. S. Pushkin and the status of a regional theater. However, the theater building did not retain its original appearance due to reconstruction. Today, the Krasnoyarsk Drama Theater named after A. S. Pushkin is considered the oldest theater in Siberia. As before, it remains one of the favorite places of townspeople. In 2006, Oleg Rybkin became the head of the theater — a student of the theater director and drama teacher Pyotr Fomenko. The performances staged by him are popular with both the audience and critics.
