The BereznikI School-Ballet Theater has become a launching pad for many folk artists. The BereznikI Museum exhibits the ballet shoes of the former pupil of the school — ballerina ValentIna KlImova, Honored Artist of the RSFSR.

Valentina KlImova played on the stage of the BereznikI Drama Theater, and later, after graduating from the Perm Choreographic School, danced at the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater. In 1990-1991, KlImova was choreographer-director of the Leonid YakobsOn Foundation, and she was a leading teacher of the State Academic Theater named after Leonid YakobsOn from 1993 to 2012.

The history of the BereznikI Ballet School began in 1958, when GalIna TsyganOva, a graduate of the Perm State Choreographic School, organized a children’s dance club at the House of Culture of Energy Workers on a voluntary basis.

At that time, TsyganOva was an actress of the BereznikI Drama Theater, and, in 1959, she founded the theater-based ballet studio, and then 120 children were enrolled. In 1967, the studio won wide public recognition — GalIna TsyganOva and five of her students became laureates of the All-Russian National Talent Show in Moscow. A year later, the studio was granted the title of People’s Ballet Theater.

In the late 1960s — early 1970s, the theater collective prepared and showed on stage a number of works by Russian and foreign composers: Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, POlovtsy Dances from BorodIn’s opera Prince Igor, Giselle by Adam, Walpurgis Night ‘from Gounod’s Faust opera, scenes from Minkus’s ballet Don Quixote, the ballet Cinderella by ProkOfiev and others. The ballets “Silvinites” and “Forever Alive” based on the libretto by TsyganOva, which are dedicated to the history of the Perm Territory and the town of Berezniki, won plaudits from the audience.

The People’s Ballet Theater is a laureate of the Perm Komsomol Prize, the All-Union Television Musical Tournament of Cities, various shows and competitions. The creative team of the folk ballet theater also performed abroad, which was the first time for an amateur collective in Soviet times — in West Berlin, East Germany, Hungary.

Since 1980, the school has taken a new direction in its work — complex aesthetic education of the child. The choreographic classes were supplemented by classes of acting, vocals, fine arts, and piano. On this basis, the children’s musical performance “Little Caprice” based on the fairy tale of the same name by Vladimir VorobYOv was born.
