Venerable Michael Malein (in the world — Manuel, ca. 894, Cappadocia — 963) — a relative of Emperor Leo VI the Wise, founder of several monasteries on Kiminskaya Mountain, teacher of Athanasius of Athos, founder of the Great Lavra of Athos. He is a namesake holy Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov, which caused the spread of the cult of the saint in Russia in the 17th century. The relics and the image of St. Michael were brought to Moscow in 1627 from Patriarch of Constantinople Cyril Lukaris (now in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior). The memory is celebrated on July 25 in a new style.
