In the 1960s, Uray was the cutting edge of the Komsomol feat. Students came there at the call of the party and the Komsomol from all over the multinational country to develop Siberian oil and build a new city.
In 1966, the student construction team “North”, which was located in Uray, included students from Kharkov State University named after M. Gorky, Ufa Oil Institute, and Kazan Aviation Institute.
The rapid development of the UNI (Ufa Oil Institute), the construction of new buildings and the opening of new specialties was due to the growth of the oil industry in the west of Bashkiria and in Tatarstan.
By the mid-1960s, the Ufa Oil Institute was an extensive educational institution that provided the fuel and energy complex, as well as the construction industry of the region and the country, with qualified personnel. With the emergence of a new oil-producing region — West Siberia — the number of students at the Ufa Oil Institute dramatically increased.
Construction projects, in which students took part in 1966, can be found in every corner of Uray. Some of them were in a factory area. The students of the Ufa Oil Institute built a garage there. The installation works were completed eight days ahead of schedule: the students worked without breaks, and there was also a spirit of competition. Teams could work for 12 hours a day with occasional days off.
Also in the factory area, Ufa students, who were part of the team “North”, left a message in 1966 for their descendants. The message was put into a green glass bottle, which was found during the dismantling of an oil reservoir in 2019.
The message read. “To our descendants! May there always be sunshine in these walls! Here we, Ufa residents, participants of the third working semester, Sveta Alymova, Lyuba Zheltoukhova, Lyuba Kanaeva, Liza Konyaeva, Nina Mokrusheva, and Damir Khakimov, built. July 4, 1966 2:30 p.m. local time after lunch.” Currently, the message is in the historical exposition of the Uray City Historical Museum.
