Uzlovaya land is rich in talents. People’s Artist of Russia Vyacheslav M. Kobzev is one of the famous natives of the Tula Region. The vocalist was born in a miner’s family in Bolokhovo village on June 29, 1941. In the 50s, his parents moved to the Uzlovsky District. Here, the talented young man finished a seven-year school, entered a school for working youth, worked as a selector at the timber warehouse of mine No. 15.

From an early age, Vyacheslav Kobzev performed as an amateur singer, participated in concerts in the local Palace of Culture. In 1957, the future artist took part in the city amateur talent contest timed to coincide with the World Festival of Youth and Students.

Vyacheslav Kobzev’s vocal carrier started after graduation from the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music. The artist has been singing professionally since 1970, worked in the Mosconcert organization, having given in total more than five thousand performances.

Vyacheslav Kobzev’s voice is bass baritone. He gained a special popularity as a performer of folk songs and Russian romance. He also creates musical compositions.

Vyacheslav Kobzev is an author of music and drama programs, songs and romances. As a performer, he has recorded dozens of music albums, gave multiple radio and TV solo concerts. In 1994, the singer was granted the title of Honored Artist, and in 2004 — People’s Artist of Russia.

In 2005, Vyacheslav Kobzev was awarded the Peter the Great Gold Medal for remarkable achievements in the Russian culture. In 2010, the singer became a full member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts.

The vocalist’s creative work inspired Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Victor N. Slatinsky to paint the singer’s portrait. The artist was born in 1939 in Zbuynevo village of the Tver Region Nerl District. First he studied art in an art school, then graduated from the V. I. Surikov Moscow State Institute of Arts.

Victor Slatinsky has been participating in exhibitions since 1966. Since 1978, he has been working in the Surikov Moscow State Institute of Arts as a professor and the dean of the art faculty. In 1984, he became a member of the Artists Union of the USSR. In 2002, Victor N. Slatinsky was awarded a diploma of the Russian Academy of Arts. He works in various painting genres and techniques. His canvases are kept in collections of the Moscow Union of Artists, the Ministry of Culture of the RF, Russian regional museums of fine art.

On the Portrait of People’s Artist of Russia V. M. Kobzev, the singer is sitting at an opened grand piano after a successful performance. He is wearing a black concert tail coat with a white shirt and a bow-tie. On the instrument stand, there are open scores, on the piano lid, there is a bunch of roses from the grateful audience.

Regular masculine features of the soloist’s exalted face keep the impression of artistic inspiration. The proud bearing, the inner power of the image are indicative of an ability to control the audience. The canvas is painted in a strict black and white palette with a few color accents. The choice of the palette emphasizes the dignity of the occasion.
