The Art Gallery opened in June 1987 holds a small collection of canvases by Soviet painters: Sergey and Alexey Tkachev, Arkady Plastov and Nikolay Romadin.
The Gallery collection of paintings presently comprises 345 exhibits; the collection of graphics, with 8,349 artworks, and 107 sculptures. The applied and decorative art collection contains 893 pieces, a portion of which is kept in storage.
The Gallery occupies three out of the seven showrooms owned by the Fine Arts and History Museum. The works of the local painters born in the Tula region, both amateur and professionals are exhibited in the first showroom; the second showroom is dedicated to professional paintings of different genres, and the third one displays the works of the Academy member artists.
The exhibits include renowned works by Ivan Rubtsov, a Hero of the Russian Federation, the Fall in the Park and Moonlit Night; linocuts by Pyotr Vinogradov; landscapes by Ratmir Nikiforov, and caricatures by Porfiry Krylov.
The Gallery collection is expanding thanks to donations by artists’ families, art patrons, and regional leaders. That is how the Museum came to receive the painting on a woolen shawl by Vasily Milyaev, the industrial landscape by Alexander Mayorov, and the works by Sergey Peredireyev.
