The collection of the Iskitim Museum of Arts and History features a portrait of Pyotr Popov by Ivan Petrovich Popov.

Pyotr Ivanovich Popov was the son of Ivan Nikitich and Vera Alekseyevna, as well as the second cousin of Ivan Petrovich Popov and Vasily Makarovich Shukshin. The cousins were connected not only by family ties but also by their shared childhood in the village of Srostki. Pyotr was older than his famous relatives and served as a role model for them when they were all children. Ivan Popov recalled,

It was with his cousin Pyotr that the artist worked as a shepherd after the local shepherd had drowned in the Katun River. “That summer, our hair was bleached completely by the sun, our noses were peeling, and we suddenly seemed to have grown up. Our mothers were so happy that they even stopped checking our sleeves for evidence of smoking…” recalled Ivan Popov. His childhood was difficult, full of need and hunger. He did not have a father. Still, there was also a place for mischief, genuine joy, and naive discoveries.
