Vladimir Igoshev was born in 1921 in Bashkiria. In 1940 he graduated from the Arts Faculty of the Ufa College of Arts. The People’s Artist of the Bashkir ASSR Ivan Uryadov and an artist Aleksandr Tyulkin, who is considered the founder of the visual art in Bashkortostan, were his mentors. During the Great Patriotic War Vladimir Igoshev served in the Soviet army. He was seriously wounded during the fight for the Fourth Height not far from Stalingrad. In 1943 the first exhibition with around 60 of the painter’s works was organized.
From 1944 Igoshev was a member of the USSR Union of Artists. In 1950 he graduated from The Surikov Art Institute in Moscow. The artist participated in exhibitions in Moscow, Kiev, Tokyo, Prague and many other cities. He worked in vasious genres: landscape, portrait and genre painting. Works by Igoshev are in the collections of The State Tretyakov Gallery, The State Russian Museum, the art museums of Odessa, Tashkent, Novosibirsk, Ekaterinburg, and private collections. In 1982 the artist won the State Prize of Russia named after I. E. Repin.
Igoshev’s educational work started when he moved to Moscow in 1968. He was a professor at Moscow Architectural Institute and Moscow State Pedagogical University. Igoshev visited the North Urals and the Ob River regions many times. On December 1st, 1991 he visited Khanty-Mansi Auronomous Okrug for the opening of the new Khanty-Mansi Regional Museum of Local Lore. The exhibition of works by Vladimir Igoshev was organized there. In 2001 the House-Museum of the People’s Artist of the USSR was founded in Khanty-Mansiysk.
The artist recalled: “I, painter Vladimir Igoshev, find myself thinking about the past, the moments of joyful meetings and happy events and, at the same time, about sad and sorrowful things. I realize it has to be that way. And still, I can consider myself a happy person. Isn”t it so? I have lived through the whole 20th century except for its first quarter. Along with my nation and my country I”ve gone through everything including both the things I can”t but be proud of and the ones I recollect with pain and grief.”
