The fireplace portal was brought to the museum of the town of Temnikov in 1919 from the estate of Igor Platonovich Demidov. In 1956, after the Temnikov museum was closed, it was transferred to the museum of local history in Saransk. In the Inventory book of registration of exhibits of the MASSR Republican Museum of Local History from 15 May 1953 – 2 December 1956, the following items (with one origin - ‘from the Demidov estate, the village of Kondrovka, 1919’) are listed under numbers 2, 5, 6 and 7. It is written under number 2: ‘Design of a fireplace. Art wood carving. Two male figures carrying a shelf’. Portraits of an unknown artist are recorded under numbers 5, 6 and 7: ‘Portrait of Peter I (copy) bust-length’, ‘Portrait of Nikita Demidov (copy) half-length’, ‘Portrait of Akinfiy Demidov (copy) half-length’.
The framing of the fireplace is made according to the samples of the fireplace portals of West Europe of the 17th century. It is made of solid walnut and mahogany (the frame behind the atlantes) and decorated with Baroque art carvings. Along the edges there are atlantes sculptures on a square base in full-length holding the upper shelf on their shoulders. The shelf is richly decorated: in the centre there is a mascaron, on the sides there are stylized figures of dragons and birds framed by flower buds and plant patterns, on the top there is a border of 4 tiers made with ornaments of different styles.
The fireplace portal comes from the Kondrovka estate of Demidov (now, Temnikovsky District of the Republic of Mordovia). Igor Platonovich Demidov (1873–1946) was a public figure, journalist, prose writer. He is a descendant of N. Antufiev, a Tula blacksmith, founder of the Demidov dynasty. He graduated from the Demidov Lyceum in Yaroslavl, founded by his great-grandfather, the Noble Institute in Nizhny Novgorod and the Law Faculty of the Moscow University in 1899.
After marrying Ekaterina Yuryevna Novosiltseva in 1902, I.P. Demidov settled in Temnikov, so his further fate is closely connected to the Mordovian region. At the wedding they got as a dowry an estate near Temnikov in the village of Kondrovka. In 1907 I.P. Demidov became chairman of the local council of the Temnikovsky district in the Tambov province. In 1908–1910 he was the local leader of the nobility. In 1912–1917 he was a member of the IV State Duma from the Tambov province.
According to the memorials of Prince S.P. Mansyrev, who visited the barton in June 1914:
