In the collection of the Urazovo Local History Museum you can see a photograph of Leonid Polevnichy.
Leonid Polevnichy was born in 1949 in the settlement of Urazovo, Belgorod Region. He successfully graduated from the Urazovo secondary school, and then entered the Lugansk vocational technical school No. 49. Polevnichy began his career in 1967 at the Lugansk diesel locomotive plant as an assembly fitter, where he worked before being drafted into the army. He served in the Soviet army since May 17, 1968. Two years later, on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Sergeant Leonid Polevnichy was awarded the jubilee medal ‘For military valor. In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin’.
In 1971, Leonid Polevnichy decided to fulfill his old dream and went to the city of Kharkov. He went to study at the municipal vocational technical school No. 23 as an assistant driver of an electric locomotive. He returned to Urazovo as a certified specialist and got a job at the Locomotive depot in Valuyki. He was given the second class of an electric train driver.
In 1978, Polevnichy graduated from the on the job training program of the Kharkov Technical College of Railway Transport with a degree in Electric Traction Economy of Railways and received the qualification of an electromechanical technician.
He loved his profession very much. His colleagues respected him for his honesty and integrity. For more than 20 years, in connection with the transition from an assistant driver to train drivers, an increase in class, for rewards, only positive characteristics were made for him. The characteristics noted his hard work, discipline, striving for knowledge, decent behavior in the work team and family. For a conscientious and responsible attitude to his work and for showing initiative, the top-management of the locomotive depot has repeatedly encouraged Polevnichy.
