The necklace was found in Chaltyr village of Rostov oblast in 1987. Archeologists found it in a woman’s burial, which was the main one in the burial mound.
Ancient jewelers combined in their items gold beads and medallion-pendants. They made them of different shapes, embellished with granulation — fine decoration of small spheres, and filigree — decoration of thin twisted wire. Inserted glass or semiprecious stones turned the medallions into bright color accents.
In this necklace hollow round beads alternate with oval and leaf-shaped pendants. Almandites inserted in the pendants are the hardest type of garnet. This stone is usually red or reddish-purple, in the ancient time it was often used in jewelry. The edges of pendants are decorated with a row of granulation.
