Konstantin Konstantinovich was born in 1890, he was the great-grandson of Emperor Nicholas I and godson of Alexander III. He bore the title of Count of royal lineage. This title was passed on to the distant relatives of the Monarch.

The Count was brought up in an atmosphere of strict discipline. He chose military career just as the majority of the royal family members, having graduated from the Corp of Pages.

Konstantin Konstantinovich initially served in the Navy, but later on, due to ill health, he was transferred to the Army. The Count was assigned to the Imperial Guard of the Izmailovskiy Regiment as Second Lieutenant in 1910. One year later he was assigned as Aide-de-Camp to Emperor Nicholas II. His comrades-in-arms characterized him as modest and respectable.

Konstantin Konstantinovich was soon promoted to Captain for his commendable service. During World War I he was awarded with the Order of St. George (fourth degree) for bravery. It was one of the most significant military awards in Russia. It was stated in the award recommendation, that the Count’s heroism resulted in victory in battle. The Count continued following the orders of his commander under drum-fire from both sides.
Konstantin Konstantinovich was also awarded with the Order of St. Anne (forth degree), assigned for bravery. A special award in the form of the St. George’s Weapon was presented to him for saving a company under drum-fire from heavy artillery. He managed to control panic in the troops without deserting the battlefield.

The exposition of the museum presents a combat uniform of an Aid-de-Camp to the Emperor, which exactly replicates the one that Konstantin Konstantinovich used to wear in World War I. The uniform included: forage cap, shirt, baggy trousers, officer’s boots and uniform overcoat. The uniform overcoat was adorned with a silver cord, fastened on the right under the shoulder board or epaulet.
After revolution the Count was arrested together with the other members of the royal family. He was exiled from Petrograd. With his brothers, Igor and John, he was kept prisoner in Alapayevsk. They were executed on July 18, 1918. War hero, Konstantin Konstantinovich, perished at the age of 28.
