Viktor Ivanovich Petryashov, painter, graphic artist, and teacher, graduated from the Cheboksary Art School and developed his skills at the Creative Dacha of the RSFSR Union of Artists and at the Repin Academicheskaya Dacha. The artist actively participated in republican, regional, interregional, national and international exhibitions, his works are well-known and are kept in private and public collections: in the Udmurt Republican Museum of Fine Arts, the Mari Republican Museum of Fine Arts, and the Directorate of Art Exhibitions of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation.
All the work of Viktor Petryashov is filled with confidence that constructive work and unity of people with nature is the true joy of life. The artist works in the traditions of Russian realistic art. The folk theme is the main one in his art. It permeates the genre paintings, landscapes and still lifes.
In the early period of his work, Viktor Petryashov paid more attention to the creation of narrative canvases devoted to rural life. Later in his work, there would be other themes relevant to his contemporaries (sports, urban life), but the subject of rural life would remain his favorite and would be realized in different genres, including still life.
“Still Life in the Field”, on the one hand, reflects the tradition of depicting fruits of nature against the background of nature itself, started in the first half of the 20th century by Fedot Vasilyevich Sychkov — the founder of professional fine art in Mordovia. On the other hand, it represents the trend of the 1970s, when artists depicted seemingly plain objects with a special charm. This is in tune with the master’s desire to authentically and at the same time sincerely show life in the Mordovian remote areas.
By setting a high horizon line, Viktor Petryashov reveals the world of a simple villager through everyday household items, occupying the entire foreground of the canvas. The idea of the painting is emphasized by its color scheme, combining different grassy-green and earthy-ochre shades. The scene looks soft and lyrical.
