The Museum of the History of the Resort City of Sochi presents a model of the sculpture composition “Matsesta”, created by the sculptor Iraida Yakovlevna Gusleva (1926–1979) and installed in 1967.
Iraida Gusleva graduated from the Leningrad Higher School of Art and Industry named after Vera Ignatyevna Mukhina. After that, she arrived in Sochi and began working in the workshops of the Art Fund. Gusleva’s works include many sculptural portraits and monuments. One of her most special works is a sculpture named “Matsesta”, made in a unique manner. This sculpture was carved from locally sourced, dense light-colored sandstone and was harmoniously integrated into the hillside by the architect.
