The Southern Ural Mechanical Factory recorded its history since 1942. The factory supplied its products to 100 large business across the country. The Orsk heavy machinery Factory had seventy years of experience, successfully operating in reloading and homogenizing, agglomeration, steelmaking, rolling and other areas. Its favorable geographic location - on the border between Europe and Asia - provided a convenient route to the main consumers in the Ural region, Western Siberia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and India. The factory’s machines and technical equipment functioned well in metallurgy, mining, fuel and energy businesses in more than 30 different countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, CIS and Russia. A significant proportion of the factory’s production was taken up by custom built equipment, produced in accordance with the individual wishes of the customer.
Orsk’s industrial construction peaked between 1950s and 1980s. The Orsk Non-Ferrous Metal Plant issued the first nonferrous mill products in 1942. In the post-war years it was completely rebuilt and fitted with modern foundry equipment, such as rollers.
The Southern Ural Nickel Plant is a large Russian business of non-ferrous metallurgy, which made up more than 1% of worldwide nickel production. It opened its doors on 29 April 1935. The company’s sourced its raw materials from the deposit fields in Orsk and Kimpersay in the Aktobe region, Kazakhstan. The plant was awarded the USSR State Defense Committee’s Red Banner eighteen times and was left for eternal storage. In the post-war years, production continued to increase.
The Chkalov Oil Refinery was also an early pioneer of Orsk’s industry. Between 1950s and 1980s, work began on the factory’s technical refitting, as the plant had produced fuel for the Soviet Army and Navy during the war.
