The Jacob style was prominent in all types of furniture at the turn of the 19th century. It was named after Georges Jacob, one of the pioneering furniture makers of the Neoclassical period in France. Due to the widespread popularity of Neoclassical mahogany furniture, all such products, even those made in Russia, were referred to as “Jacob” or “Russian Jacob” style. In St. Petersburg, such furniture was crafted in the workshops of the Mayer brothers, while in the workshops of Moscow and its surroundings, it was produced by serf craftsmen based on French designs. In the second half of the 19th century, the Jacob style began to be incorporated into the design of the Imperial Palace, particularly the chambers of Emperor Alexander III and his wife Maria Feodorovna.

The Lipetsk Regional Museum of Local Lore also houses Jacob-style furniture. It is distinguished by the use of mahogany wood, straight lines and strict shapes, and brass elements — elongated stamped rods and relief inserts and rosettes shaped like concentric circles. The lower part of the bureau cabinet is a rectangular desk with two drawers and four tapered legs with a rectangular cross-section. The underbracing (the element connecting the desk legs), the front surface of the drawers, and the upper parts of the legs are decorated with bronze ribbed overlays. In the center of the tabletop, there is a green cloth. On the tabletop, there is a rectangular cabinet that has one drawer at the top. The front part of the cabinet is closed with two hinged doors. Behind these doors, there are three shelves. Each of the two doors can also slide to the left and right, revealing four drawers on each side. The cabinet doors feature decorative overlays. The mahogany chair has brass overlays. Its solid back has a figured top and is decorated with brass rods forming a rhombus in the center. The front legs are curved, and the back legs are slightly bent back. The seat is padded and upholstered in red fabric.
