In the Urazovo Local History Museum you can see a sewing machine ‘Singer’ dated from the beginning of the 20th century. This is a lockstitch shoe machine for sewing shoe heads and tops. These ones were produced at the Russian plant of the American company Singer from 1902 to 1917.

1917 was a turning point in the history of the Podolsk enterprise. To prevent its final closure, the Singer company leased the plant to the Provisional Government on preferential terms. And in November 1918 he was nationalized. After that, the main production was suspended. The number of workers has decreased several times. The production of pans, openers, cast iron, and irons was begun here. Only in 1924 the first Soviet sewing machines rolled off the production line. And a year later, the scope of production increased fourfold.

Since 1931 the plant had been manufacturing sewing machines under the PMZ brand (Podolsk Mechanical Plant). Four years later, on the instructions of the People’s Commissar of Heavy Industry Sergo Ordzhonikidze, the plant began producing motorcycles PMZ A 750.
