The Re-inventory book of the City of Belo-ozero of 1617/18 says that before the devastation of the city by the Polish-Lithuanian detachment in ZachArin ‘sorOk’ was a church of ‘Annunciation of the Most Holy Mother of God’ with a chapel in the name of SergEi RadoneEzhsky, built on the parishioners money. ‘SorOk’ was the name of the territory, which united the group of temples, and of the group of temples itself. Later, the ‘sorOk’ was replaced with deaneries, which are still used today.
An extract from the Belozersk cadastres of the 1670s also mentions the Annunciation Church. It was located on Proboynaya Street. The temple was wooden, tent-shaped, with a refectory and a parvis, covered by thin planks.
The church had a bell tower with four bells with a total weight of 15 poods (240 kilogram). The church and its decoration were created on the parishioners’ money. As the church soon became dilapidated, a new one was built next to it, also tent-shaped, with a refectory and a parvis.
The stone temple was built in 1715 at the request of the priest Gregory Grigoriev, the church warden Fyodor Chepyshynikov and the parishioners. It was erected on the site of the old warm wooden church in the name of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The church had an original five-tier bell tower, topped with an onion dome. The dome and drum were covered with ceramic shingle - tiled plates stylized like wooden ones.
According to the researcher Nikolai BogoslOvsky, in the 1860s the church owned 3 plots of land with a total area of more than 80 hectares. Two plots - the Arkhangelsko-Nikolskaya meadow and the Popova wasteland - were in the Belozersky County 17 versts from the city, these lands were transferred to the church in 1778. The third plot, the Arkhangelskaya meadow, was located in the neighboring Kirilovsky County and was in the common domain with the Vognemskaya Church of the Nativity of the Virgin. Most of the land plots were ploughland and hayland. For the lease of land, the church received an income of 60 rubles per year.
The main activity of the parishioners was fish trade. Also parishioners traded “textiles, raw hide, beef, leather, salo, boots, wine and tallow candles”. The bell ringer of the church Ivan Sokolov was engaged in education of children under local priest Jacob Nikitsky. He taught boys and girls from different parishes. During the Soviet years, the temple did not work. Currently, a residential house can be found on this site.
