Taganrog boy’s high school is one of the oldest educational institutions in the south of Russia. It was founded in 1806. Anton Chekhov studied there between 1868 and 1879. In the top left corner of the display panel there is a picture showing the school building, with a picture of Chekhov near it, dated 1879.
While studying in the high school, Chekhov made his first attempts in writing but those works have not survived to our days. Those were vaudevilles “Push came to shove” and “It”s not for nothing that a hen sang”, and a stage play “Fatherless”. In the top right corner of the display panel there is a copy of a composition, “The KirghIz”, written by Chekhov in his fifth year of the high school:
