Ivan Shishkin was born in 1832 in the old city of Elabuga on the banks of the Kama River. However, the desire to connect his life with art made him leave his native land for Moscow.
Shishkin viewed his art education very seriously. After graduating from the Moscow School of Painting and Sculpture, he continued honing his skills at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, and worked a lot on his own. Academic success entitled the young artist to the right to travel abroad.
Shishkin was thorough in everything he undertook — including his work. The main artistic credo of the painter was consistency and truthfulness to nature.
