gifted to future Emperor Nicholas II in 1891. At that time, Tsesarevich visited the Tobolsk Provincial Museum. The album became a commemorative gift in honor of that event.

The model is made of semi-silvered papier-mâché. It reproduces in full the entire decoration with which the original was embellished. The genuine cover was made of silver. In the middle of it there was a large oval frame, inside which a picture of the Tobolsk Museum’s building is seen. Above it there was a relief monogram of Tsesarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich; below, there are the coat of arms of Tobolsk and the date: 1891. Along the contour of the central frame, we see a commemorative inscription: “To His Imperial Highness, Successor Tsesarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich on July 10, 1891”.

Tobolsk Governor Vasily Troynitsky recollected the presentation of this gift as follows: Tobolsk Governor Vasily Troynitsky recollected the presentation of this gift as follows:

At that time, the Museum’s curator was Nikolay Lytkin. He became the first man to hold such a position in Tobolsk. In acknowledgement of the excursion around the exposition, the heir to the throne gifted gold studs to Lytkin and a precious signet ring to the librarian who showed him rare editions.

Tobolsk burgher Jacob Filderman created 10 photos for the album. His photo studio had been working in the city from 1884. In 1893, Filderman received a permit to take photographs outside Tobolsk: in Tyumen, Kurgan, Ishim, Yalutorovsk, Turinsk, Tyukalinsk and other northern regions.

Apart from the commemorative album from the Tobolsk Museum, Tsesarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich received many other gifts. They were presented by ordinary residents of the city and the region, representatives of the clergy, municipal, district and provincial authorities. Among the gifts for the future emperor there were antique icons, precious books, carpets, carved caskets, salt cellars and tableware of different material – wood, porcelain, silver and gold.
