The coronation album of Emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Fyodorovna was published in 1899, three years after the coronation itself. Vasily Krivenko, head of the office of the Ministry of the Imperial Court, led the preparation of the publication. Nikolay Samokish, a painter, draftsman and book graphic artist, worked on the album. He made drawings of the bindings, title pages and half-title page, initial capital letter, head ornament and the endings. Some of the illustrations were created by the artist Elena Samokish-Sudkovskaya.
The first volume, artistic, included copies of watercolors and drawings dedicated to the coronation. Its authors were Albert Benoit, Victor Vasnetsov, Vladimir Makovsky, Valentin Serov, Ilya Repin and other artists. It also included materials on the history of the coronation rite and an overview of coronations of predecessors. In the second volume, the drafters posted a description of honoring of Nicholas II and his wife, including historical documents, press articles, photographs of members of the Romanov family and participants of the coronation.
The two-volume was printed in the Expedition of preparation of official papers, the current Goznak. The edition was printed in 1,650 copies made in different designs — one part came out in covers and cloth-covered cases, the other — in simple bindings. In 1914, at the International Exhibition of Printing and Graphics in Leipzig, the publication was called a masterpiece of the book art.
The copy, stored in the scientific library of the Tambov Regional Museum, belonged to Countess Anna Stroganova. This is the first volume of the Coronation album of 1899. It got into the collection of rare books, presumably, during the nationalization of estates of nobility. In the upper right corner of the cover there is the seal of the Tambov provincial art museum, and next to it there is the signature: price 1315.
