The treasure after cleaning. To the right, there are some fragments of slate and a stone sinker for a net with a binding of gray willow bast.
The spear points were found in the fourth cultural layer, as archaeologists call the soil layer that contains traces of culture at the sites of human settlements. The treasure was discovered in the southern part of the pit and dated to the Middle Mesolithic: ancient people made the spear points about 10 thousand years ago. It was the time when the ice age was ending, and modern vegetation zones and landscapes were taking shape on the earth. Near the treasure, archaeologists discovered some pieces of slate and a sinker made of it, an awl made of animal bones, and sharp tools made of chipped pieces of stones.

The spear points were found in the organic slime (sapropel), a silty sediment of decayed remains of plants and animals. Sapropel is formed in lakes at a depth of one to three meters. Scientists suggest that the tied bundle of points fell into the water by accident. Or it could have been an offering to the spirits of water.

The points lay close to each other. Their tips pointed in one direction, only the top one was turned at an angle. The bundle of points was probably tied together in the middle, although there are no traces of any straps. In the fourth cultural layer, plant materials are well preserved, unlike organics. Archaeologists believe that the spear points were strapped together with a tendon thread or a leather strap that have not survived to the present time.
The treasure after removing the next layer. Nearby, there is a stone net sinker with a strap, a sharpened tool and petrified dog excrements.

At the beginning of the 20th century, some remains of ancient settlements were found on the site of the Gorbunovsky peat bog. In the lower and middle layers of the peat bog, wooden floorings with many cultural items were found: stone and wooden tools, fragments of pottery, wooden sculptures in the shape of birds and animals. Archaeologists discovered a large number of sinkers for fishing nets, bone harpoons, and arrowheads.

This suggests that the tribes that lived on the site of the modern Sverdlovsk region were actively hunting and fishing. Based on the objects that were found in the Gorbunovsky peat bog in the Middle Trans-Urals, historians singled out a special Gorbunovsky archaeological culture. The collection of these spear points belongs to the minority of the Shigir finds exhibits that are not connected with the Shigir peat bog.
