In the collection of the Urazovo Local History Museum, one can see the combat jacket of Ivan Larenko, whose name is associated with the liberation of the settlement of Urazovo from the Nazi invaders.
The liberation took place in January 1943 as part of the successful Ostrogozh-Rossosh offensive operation of the Voronezh Front troops under the command of Lieutenant General Philip Golikov. The 83rd division was brought into the battle for Urazovo. The most difficult throw was ahead — more than 200 kilometers behind enemy lines. The squadron passed this distance along the enemy’s rear and on the night of January 18 moved to the Urazovo station from the Uraevo side. With great difficulty the cavalrymen reached the Starobelsk-Valuyki railway line. Soon they approached the Urazovo station. A difficult battle was ahead, and the ammunition was already running out. The soldiers saw the train, which was fired upon, and in the carriages the cavalrymen found a lot of assault rifles, heavy machine guns and other weapons.
