In the Urazovo Local History Museum, you can see the combat jacket of Ivan Kozhedub — one of the courageous people of the country, three times Hero of the Soviet Union, Air Marshal and the famous ace. 

At the beginning of the summer of 1943, Ivan Kozhedub was awarded the title of junior lieutenant and was appointed as deputy squadron commander. On July 6, 1943, on the Kursk Bulge, during his 40th combat flight, Kozhedub shot down his first German bomber aircraft, Junkers U-87. The very next day, he shot down the second one, and on July 9 — two Bf-109 fighters at once. No pilot knew such a combat score.

Ivan Kozhedub made 330 combat flights, and in 120 air battles he destroyed 62 enemy aircraft. The first title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded to Kozhedub on February 4, 1944 for 146 combat flights and 20 downed enemy aircraft.

The last air battle for Ivan Kozhedub was the battle on April 17, 1945 near Berlin, where, together with his friend Dmitry Titarenko, they entered into a battle with 40 fascist Focke-Wulfs. Later, Major Kozhedub carried the Banner of the Air Academy at the Victory Parade on Red Square in Moscow.

Air Marshal Ivan Kozhedub graduated from three academies — the Great Patriotic War, the Air Force Academy and the General Staff Academy. His highest passion was to fly. There, at altitude, he spent thousands of hours — this is almost a year of continuous flight at high speeds.

On August 8, 1991, the Soviet ace, Three times Hero of the Soviet Union, Air Marshal Ivan Kozhedub died.
