The collection of the Museum of Local History contains a field tunic of Rear Admiral Georgy Yarygin, which was donated by his widow Eugenia in 2004.
The straight cut field tunic is made of dark blue cloth. The buttons on the front side are decorated with an embossed image of the coat of arms of the USSR and an anchor. There are two patch pockets with lapels on the chest and two additional inside pockets at the bottom. The tunic sleeves are decorated with sewn on cuffs with buttons and golden patches. Black shoulder straps with a golden edging are placed on the shoulders. A white shirt-front is sewn under the stand-up collar.
The field tunic was part of the military uniform of a rear admiral, the first person of the naval forces in many countries. While admirals or vice-admirals commanded on one of the ships on the front line, the rear admirals were usually on the ship in the rear guard. In the Navy of the Soviet Armed Forces the rank of Rear Admiral was established on May 7, 1940.
Rear Admiral Georgy Yarygin lived and studied in Anzhero-Sudzhensk. In 1938, he enrolled at the Pacific Higher Naval School in Vladivostok. In the first months of the war, cadets from Leningrad, Vladivostok and Baku were sent to KuzbAss, where Naval Rifle Brigades were formed. But in October–November 1941, the 69th Marine Rifle Brigade was also formed in Anzhero-Sudzhensk, and it so happened that Yarygin ended up in his hometown.
Senior Lieutenant Yarygin first commanded the 3rd Rifle Company of the 1st Separate Rifle Battalion of the 69th Rifle Brigade. In 1942, he was appointed assistant chief of staff for reconnaissance with the rank of captain lieutenant. In 1943, many naval officers were returned to the Navy, and until the end of the war, Georgy Yarygin served as assistant commander of the minesweeper (special purpose ship) in the White Sea Flotilla.
The sailor was awarded two Orders of the Red Banner, the Orders of the Patriotic War, 1st and 2nd classes, two Orders of the Red Star and ten medals, including five foreign medals. Grigory Yarygin served in the Navy for more than 40 years and retired at the rank of rear admiral.
