A catalogue of art pieces from the so-called King’s Cabinet, established by Louis XIV. It was a set of engravings representing all the significant works of art created in France (including architectural ones), as well as engraving plates by distinguished artists. The author of the description texts is André Felibien (1619—1695), ‘historiographer of the royal buildings’, creator of the guide to Versailles.

The album was first released in 1677 under the title Les tableaux du Cabinet du Roy, au nombre de XXII, et les statues et bustes antiques des maisons royales, au nombre de XVIII et leur explication. This copy was printed two years later at the Royal Printing House in Paris. French language edition.

The spread: ‘Music Concert’. Engraved by Steph. Pieart Romanus from a painting by Domenichino (Domenico Zampieri; 1581—1641). The description says that this painting is one of the artist’s most beautiful pieces; he invested a lot of energy into it and painted the characters with great love and delicacy.
