The Military Medical Museum houses a rich collection of fine arts. Most of the paintings depict scenes from the Great Patriotic War, including “The Feat of Nikolay Kopytyonkov, a Hero of the Soviet Union, a medical assistant, and Lieutenant of the Medical Corps”. This painting was created by Yuri Tulin (1921–1983), an honored artist and arts worker of the RSFSR.

The master of the Soviet historical genre was commissioned to paint this scene by the Military Medical Museum. The painting depicts the heroic rescue of the wounded by the medical assistants Nikolay Kopytyonkov and Fedora Pushina.

Nikolay Kopytyonkov commanded a medical company of the 520th Rifle Regiment in the 167th Rifle Division of the 38th Army on the Voronezh Front. He was awarded the Order of the Red Star for organizing the evacuation of the wounded under enemy fire in the battles for the villages of Belovo District, Kursk Region. Nikolay Kopytyonkov helped to rescue 243 people.

During the war, Fedora Pushina served as a medical assistant at the same medical company as Nikolay Kopytyonkov. On February 7, 1943, she helped 45 wounded soldiers escape from artillery and mortar fire near the village of Prilepy, Kursk Region. On February 11, she was already at the frontline medical station in the village of Puzachi, where she rendered medical aid to 57 wounded soldiers and officers. When the Soviet troops retreated from the village, she brought along all the bandaging materials and medical supplies. For doing that, she was awarded the Order of the Red Star.

In his painting, Yuri Tulin depicted the tragic event that took place on November 6, 1943. A group of enemy bombers attacked the village of Svyatoshino. When one of the bombs hit the field hospital during the air raid, Nikolay and Fedora rushed to the hospital to save the wounded.

They carried several dozen patients out of the burning building. When the young woman rushed in to get the last person outside, the hospital began to collapse. Nikolay Kopytyonkov carried her out of the fire just before the building collapsed. Fedora Pushina was unconscious, having suffered severe head injuries and extensive burns. She died in the arms of the officer, who himself was badly burned.

On January 10, 1944, both Lieutenant Nikolay Kopytyonkov and Lieutenant Fedora Pushina were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. After receiving treatment, Nikolay Kopytyonkov returned to the frontline. Fedora Pushina was buried at Svyatoshino Cemetery in Kyiv.
