Life of Giacomo Manzu

Giacomo Manzu, one of the most prominent Italian sculptors of the 20th century, studied painting and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of Verona. He received due recognition in many countries. He was a friend of Pope John XXIII and made a number of works on religious themes for St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The artist also completed various projects in France, the USA, and Japan.

Procession of cardinals

In 1934, the young Manzu was very impressed by a procession of cardinals, which he saw during one of the ceremonial services in St. Peter’s Basilica. Since that moment and until the end of the 1960s, this motif was always present in his graphical works and sculptures.
