Irina Rodionovna Zinatulina is a member of Siberian Expanses, a regional group of independent artists. She started painting quite unexpectedly. In 2000 she just picked up a brush and tried to paint a lilac bush — and the result was very good. In 2006 she spent a year studying with the Novokuznetsk painter Lyudmila Yakunina, a member of the Russian Union of Artists.
Irina Zinatulina spends every free moment she has on her art, and participates in local plein-air painting competitions, as well as in regional exhibitions and competitions. In 2015 she organized an exhibition of her own work, entitled A Lovely Corner of the Kuzbass.
She specializes in figurative painting. Among her preferred genres are landscapes and still lifes. Her paintings depict the unique nature of the Kuzbass region in all its many varied colors. Her work is filled with a profound sense of poetry and love for her region.
The meadow grasses and flowers, the slender poplar trees, the coniferous forests, and, of course, the Siberian winter with its sleeping trees and its endless expanses of snow - all this is brought to life on the artist’s canvas, and finds an echo in the heart of everyone who lives in the region of Mountain Shoria, reminding them of all that is dear to them.
Contemplating Irina Zinatulina’s painting the River Tom is like contemplating wild nature itself. Graceful and free, seagulls glide above the cobalt waters and snow-white clouds float peacefully across the blue sky, while the deciduous trees on the bank murmur in the wind.
In harmony with the landscape, a boat can be seen floating calmly on the water. And, towering above all this beauty, there are the majestic mountains. Characterized by a striking simplicity, openness and a magical charm, the painting is lyrical in mood. It would be possible to gaze on it for ever.
The River Tom, which inspired the artist to paint this picture, is the main waterway in Kemerovo region. Along the course of the river there are many spectacular beauty spots, each of them unique, including forests, and steep cliffs, and confluences with smaller rivers.
The region through which the Tom flows was one of the first parts of Siberia to be populated by Russian settlers. The river passes through the region’s coal field. Because of its many areas of natural beauty, the region around the upper part of the River Tom is referred to as Siberian Switzerland, The lower stretches of the river are a paradise for fishers and hunters.
