In the photograph, there are Ilya Mashkov and his wife Maria in the artist’s workroom. It was located in the building of the Polytechnic Society at 4, Maly Kharitonevsky Lane, Moscow.
Mashkov equipped his workroom in 1906 according to his project. He lived and worked in it until his death, that is, until 1944. Here, rather than elsewhere, he painted most of his paintings. There, the modernist art association “Jack of Diamonds” (also called “Knave of Diamonds”) held its board meetings. The workroom was visited by Vladimir Mayakovsky, Anatoly Lunacharsky, Vladimir Lenin, Vsevolod Meyerhold.
This is the place, where Mashkov’s students studied. They left many memories about the workroom.
