The icon depicts the martyrs of the Ipatiev House and the Alapayev Mine, canonized members of the royal family, who were brought to the Urals in 1918 and soon executed. The icon was painted especially for the museum in memory of the members of the Russian Imperial House.
In the initial early version of the icon, all the characters were depicted with halos, since all who perished were glorified in sainthood by the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad in 1981. However, a modified version of the icon was later created (its copy with changed details). On it, only the members of the imperial family who were canonized by the Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1992, 2000 and 2016 had halos. On the left and right sides of the icon, a text from the Apocalypse is quoted.
