Titian Vechellio, was born near Venice, in the city of Pieve di Cadore. The exact date of Titian 's birth is not known. The artist 's father Gregorio Vechellio was a statesman and military figure.

Around 1500, the artist and his younger brother went to study painting in Venice with Giovanni Bellini. Titian 's early work was greatly influenced by Georgone. By 1516, Titian had become Venice 's leading artist. He was called ‘The King of Painters and Painter of Kings’ during his lifetime.

Titian painted biblical and mythological stories, he became famous as a portrait artist. Among his customers were the most outstanding people of the time: pontiffs, cardinals, kings and dukes.

There was no such eminent man and noble lady who would not be touched by his brush. And in this sense there was, is and will not be equal to him among artists.

Titian Vecellio. Girl with a basket of fruits. 1558. Berlin Art Gallery, Berlin
In the painting ‘Girl with Fruits, ’ the artist portrayed his daughter Lavinia. Titian painted his daughter many times. The portrait is painted around 1555.
The painting ‘Head of Lavinia’ from the Alupkin Museum-Reserve is a copy from Titian 's canvas ‘Girl with Fruits''. “The Head of Lavinia, the Artist 's Daughter” is a shoulder length portrait of a young cheerful woman.

The picture has advantageous perspective - the young Venetian is gracefully leaning back and turning to the viewer. Bright red lips stand out on the face of ivory color. The wavy hair of the red shade is taken back. In painting, such a hair color is known as “Titian.” To achieve this color of hair, Venetians smeared their hair with a mixture of lemon and saffron and exposed their heads to the scorching rays of the sun for long hours so that the hair would burn out.

The jewellery of the woman - pearl earring, speaks about the high status of the model. The colour of the picture has warm tones, typical to Venetian painting. Titian preferred transitions of gentle shades and flickering light. It seems that the image of the girl is lightened with golden shine.
