Alexey Sergeyevich lost his father early. His guardian soon assigned him and two of his brothers to serve in the Tambov Infantry Regiment, which was then stationed in Kostroma. Alexey Nekrasov began service in the Tambov Infantry Regiment on March 30, 1807 in the rank of non-commissioned officer. In the same year Alexey Nekrasov went on a campaign in East Prussia. In 1810, he was promoted to the rank of ensign and transferred to the 28th Jager Regiment. A year later, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. It was then that the Patriotic War of 1812 broke out.
On his return from foreign campaigns, Alexey Sergeyevich Nekrasov found himself in Podolsk Governorate. On November 10, 1817 he married Elena Andreevna Zakrevskaya. The marriage took place in the Church of the Assumption in the town of Yuzvin, Vinnitsa uyezd, Podolsk Governorate.
In 1820, the Nekrasovs had a son Andrey, then a daughter Elizaveta. Nikolay Alexeyevich was the third child in the family. He was born on November 28 (December 10, New Style) in the village of Sinky (Senki), Balt district, Podolsk Governorate. In 1823, Alexey Sergeevich and Elena Andreevna had a daughter Anna, and a year later — a son Konstantin.
In 1823, Alexey Nekrasov retired, three years later the Nekrasov family moved to the estate of Greshnevo in Yaroslavl Governorate. Their son Fyodor was born there in 1827.
The poet’s relationship with his father was
ambiguous. Nevertheless, when Nikolay Alexeyevich had already gained the status
of a famous poet, Alexey Sergeyevich asked him in January 1858:
