The building of the Mariinsk Women’s Gymnasium has been preserved to this day since the beginning of the twentieth century. It was built in 1902, at the expense of the town treasury.

The city authorities had to constantly repair the building, sometimes even during classes: finishing and repair works were performed in parallel with the lessons.

Initially, the progymnasium consisted of three classes, but later their number was increased to five. The issue of the transformation of the school was brought up in 1909. To do this, it was necessary to expand its area, so an extension appeared near the main building. The educational institution was transformed into a gymnasium on July 1, 1910, and with the beginning of classes, the sixth grade was opened. The construction and equipment of the extension was completed a year later.

In addition to the main classes, there were also reception classes at the Mariinsk Women’s Gymnasium. They trained 20-30 girls, who subsequently entered the first grade. Since the reception classes provided basic knowledge, they were considered almost as an independent educational institution. But in 1913, the provincial authorities decided to close them.

The town authorities did not agree with such a resolution and took the initiative to maintain the reception level. However, the petition of the local council was not satisfied: the provincial authorities advised to open a special model school instead of preparatory classes, so that girls could enter the gymnasium after graduation. But the town council refused to allocate funds for its creation.

Today, the gymnasium is still working. The exterior of the building has not changed much: the turrets were removed from the roof, and the wooden windows in the classrooms were replaced with plastic ones.
