The Leica IIIc camera is an improved version of the Leica II camera with an extended shutter speed range. Such devices were produced by the German Company LeicaCamera. These cameras were used by famous photographers around the world: Alexander Rodchenko, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson.
The model from the collection of the Krasnodar State Historical and Archaeological Museum dates from about 1941–1942. The rectangular cast metal case is covered with black paint. On top of the camera, there is a rewinding knob, a shutter release button, and three round metal dials with scales, with which the photographer could adjust different modes. The top of the camera also has an elevation, where there is a flash plug socket and an engraved inscription, ‘Leica DRP // Ernst Leitz Wetzfar // No. 387985’. On the front side, there is a rectangular viewfinder, as well as round rangefinder and light meter windows, and below, there is a dial with an adjustment scale. A camera lens is attached to the body with the help of a screw thread mounting system and consists of a lens, an aperture scale, a distance ring, and selection scales for adjusting the modes.
The camera has neither a camera bag not a strap. The case is worn out and scratched, the paint is peeling in the corners, and the inscriptions are partially erased.
The Leica camera from the collection of the Krasnodar State Historical and Architectural Museum named after E. D. Felitsyn belonged to Alexander Galaganov, a TASS journalist, a photojournalist of the 56th and 58th armies, a participant of the Great Patriotic War. Galaganov participated in the military operations from the mountains of Malgobek to Vinnytsia, took photographs of battle scenes, made portraits of soldiers and officers for Soviet newspapers.
In 1965, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Victory, a photo exhibition of Kuban military journalists Alexander Galaganov and Vladimir Khlomov was opened in the Krasnodar Historical and Archaeological Museum. Later that year, the museum published a catalog of photographs that had been displayed at the exhibition. For many years, Alexander Galaganov was a friend of the museum, took part in the museum events, and exhibited his works
