Yakovlev Fyodor Mikhailovich was born on June 1, 1832 in the family of peasants in the village Gruzdevo of Gorokhovetsky sheading. From the middle of the 19th century he worked at the shipbuilding facilities in St. Petersburg, from 1862 – in Kungur.
In 1887 he built his own shipyard near the village Molitovka, Balakhninsky sheading, Nizhny Novgorod Province (now the part of Nizhny Novgorod). In 1897 the company passed to his son Matvey Fedorovich. During its existence the company launched 110 passenger, cargo and towing vessels. In addition, the Yakovlevs had their own ship ‘Opyt’ (Russian: ‘Experience’). The annual turnover of the company was 300 thousand rubles, the number of workers – 200 people. In the field of charity the special items of concern of Fyodor Mikhailovich and his son Matvey Fyodorovich were the parishional church of Archangel Michael on the Archangel graveyard of the Gorokhovets sheading. In 1875 the church was significantly expanded to the west and beautifully decorated inside.
The church of Archangel Michael built in the 18th century did not meet the modern realities: it was cramped and inconvenient for the parish that had 1,500 people of only the male gender. Therefore in 1897 the Yakovlevs laid down a new church. The construction was carried out fast enough, and two years later a stone five-domed majestic temple of the Holy Trinity appeared with the rich interior decoration and the gold plated iconostasis. With a request to consecrate the newly-built church Fyodor Mikhailovich applied to the archbishop of Vladimir and Suzdal Sergius. The archbishop to the common joy of all parishioners agreed to fulfill the request of the old man. The ceremonial consecration took place on July 12, 1899. For merits in the department of religious affairs the Yakovlevs repeatedly received the blessing of the Holy Synod. For his good deeds Fedor Matveevich Yakovlev received the title of hereditary honorary citizen. The charity of the Yakovlevs was not limited to the creation and decoration of churches; on their initiative a school was opened in the parish at the end of 1886. Over the next decades three buildings were built for it. The heating, lighting, repairs, maintenance of teachers and everything necessary for pupils was organized at the expense of the Yakovlevs. The poor pupils were in full care, they were provided with food and clothing. Due to the good maintenance the school was transformed into the second-class one, and since 1899 the craft locksmith class was opened in it. Fedor Mikhailovich Yakovlev died on May 22, 1908, as recorded in the parish register of the Archangel Cathedral, ‘from old age’.
