Oleg Komov created a small sculpture of a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic Evgeni Lebedev in 1984. Presently, it is displayed in the Volzhsky Art Gallery.

Komov created a full-length sculpture of Lebedev. A stately male figure is placed on a stand. He has a small briefcase or a travel suitcase near his foot. His posture is free, with his right hand in his trousers pocket, and with his left hand holding one side of his unbuttoned jacket.

Evgeni Lebedev was a shock worker (that is, a highly productive worker) of the Soviet machine-building. He was born in 1925 in the industrial community of Ozyory. In 1941, he entered an industrial school in the city of Kolomna, and at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he was evacuated to Krasnoyarsk.

In 1942, Lebedev began working as a machinist at the Kliment Voroshilov Plant No. 4 of the USSR Ministry of Armament and Defense Industry, where he manufactured parts for 61-K automatic air defense guns.

Lebedev not only worked at the plant, but also engaged in social and political work. In 1966, he received the title of Hero of Socialist Labor, the Order of Lenin and the Hammer and Sickle medal. Lebedev was also elected deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR of the 7th convocation. He was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

Lebedev worked at the factory until 1995, and then retired. He passed away in 2014 in Krasnoyarsk.

Oleg Komov created the sculpture in the technique of bronze casting. Tin bronze was one of the first metals mastered by humans. It is quite hard, durable and more fusible than copper. At the same time, tin bronze is practically not amenable to pressure treatment, for example, forging and stamping. Therefore, the most convenient way to work with it at all times was casting.

Making a bronze sculpture is a rather complicated process. It can take at least 60 days to create just one. First, an artist creates an exact model, with which they want to make a cast in the future. The model can be made of bone, wood, plaster, soft clay, or playdough. Modern craftsmen use polymer materials for this. The surface of the sculpture is sanded and coated with several layers of varnish for maximum smoothness.

According to this model, a blank cast from wax is first made. With this transitional item, it is easier to correct faults in details than in an already finished bronze sculpture. The wax mold is covered with a fireproof sand mixture, it is fixed and then the wax is poured.

Then comes the molding stage. One needs to make a casting mold. A future sculpture is placed in a detachable metal box called “opoka” in Russian, from which wax was melted, and it is filled with a molding mixture of purified quartz sand and clay. There is a small hole at the top through which the molten metal is poured. After casting, the remnants of sand are cleaned off, and the resulting sculpture is refined and polished.
