The book Druzhok ('Little Friend') is an offering edition, typewritten by Moisei Stepanovich Kononenko, a Ukrainian writer, at the request of his five-year-old son Yury.

The cover indicates not the author, but the addressee to whom this book was offered: His Imperial Highness the Successor Tsesarevich and the Grand Duke Alexei Nikolaevich.

It turns out that five-year-old Yury Kononenko wanted to present to Tsesarevich Alexei his favorite dad’s story Druzhok, which had never been published before. He asked dad to type and bind it. This happened in Kiev on August 29, 1911.

Just at this time the Emperor Nicholas II arrived at Kiev with his son to open the monument to Alexander II in honor of the 50th anniversary of the abolition of serfdom. Kononenko somehow presented the book, and it was possessed by Tsesarevich Alexei in the Alexander Palace.
