The most important thing in military intelligence is to see and hear everything, remaining completely unnoticed by the enemy.

#4

He participated in the defense of Moscow, Kalinin (now Tver) and Smolensk regions, and fought in the battles near Oryol and Kursk.

Boris Korotkov recalled his injury and the death of his friend as follows,

#5

My vision went black, and I fell down, losing consciousness. I woke up in the medical unit. <…> Slava Ivanov was lying on the table next to me, doctors and nurses were standing around him. They weren’t doing anything, Slava was dead, he was lying there with his eyes open, they looked frozen and were filled with tears. I bent down, blood sprayed from my nose onto Slava’s <…> body and tears rushed in torrents from my eyes. I said goodbye to my friend, Slava Ivanov from Kostroma. He was taken away. On the second day I was sent to a field hospital. My service in the divisional intelligence of the Yaroslavl Communist Party ended.

In 1942, after healing from his wounds, Korotkov was sent to study at the Lviv Military School. Upon graduation, he was promoted to lieutenant, and then appointed platoon commander.

From September 1943, after another injury, he served in the state security agencies.

For heroism and courage shown during the war, Boris Pavlovich Korotkov was awarded the Orders of the Patriotic War, 1st class, the Red Star, the medals “For Bravery”, “For the Defense of Moscow”, “Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Zhukov”, and “For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War”.

In peacetime, Boris Korotkov dedicated his life to healthcare and pedagogy. At first, he worked as a dental technician, then as the head of the department of the regional dental clinic, and dental technician in a clinic of the Department of Internal Affairs. At the same time, Korotkov taught at the Kostroma Medical School.

Boris Pavlovich Korotkov was the persistent chairman of the commission on military and patriotic education of youth of the Dimitrov Veterans Council for more than 20 years.

Korotkov was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Kostroma in July 2010.

Boris Pavlovich Korotkov passed away on September 17, 2016.
