Alexandra Ekster is one of the iconic artists of the Russian avant-garde. In different periods of her life she was engaged in painting and scenography, teaching, illustration of books and creation of objects of decorative and applied art. She was highly appreciated in Europe for her creative freedom and original approach to non-figurative painting, while the artist’s studio in Kiev, where she had spent her childhood and youth, was a point of attraction for the creative intelligentsia of all walks of life.
Among Ekster’s guests and students in Kiev were El Lisitsky, Isaac Rabinovich and Ilya Ehrenburg.
