The fresco depicts the Mother of God on the throne, slightly supporting the Infant Christ by the shoulder, and Anthony and Theodosius of Pechora coming to her in prayer. This image goes back to the miraculous icon of ‘Our Lady of Sven-Pechora’ from the Svensky Monastery near Bryansk, which, according to the Legend of the 16th — 17th centuries, was brought from the Kiev-Pechora Monastery at the request of the blind Bryansk Prince Roman Mikhailovich in 1288. The fresco composition refers to a simplified version of the iconography of ‘Our Lady of Pechora’, which became widespread in the art of Russia of the 17th century.
