This icon of Our Lady of Kazan was created in the middle of the 17th century by an unknown icon painter. It comes from the St. Nicholas Church in Murom. In the centre of the icon there are images of the Virgin and the Child. Perimeter images represent miracles that happened by virtue of this icon. Similar miraculous icons of the Mother of God with the miracles performed by her were widespread in Russia from the middle of the 16th century.
The centrepiece of the icon is painted on a silver background and is enclosed in a decorative frame. It is decorated with a grass pattern that resembles Khokhloma patterns. The inscriptions, which are in frames of different shapes, are made in interwoven ornament with floral decorations. The centrepiece is surrounded by twenty scenes that vary in size.
