The exposition On Scorched Earth was timed to the 50th anniversary and appeared in the museum-diorama on August 4, 1993. This exhibition was organized by the museum’s research scientists in conjunction with the masters from the painting and design art integrated enterprise of Saint Petersburg.
The Battle of Kursk continued from July 5 to August 23, 1943. It can be divided into two main phases: the defensive and the offensive. The defensive period is presented in the hall of combat glory. The exhibition was designed in the colours of the war: grey as the soldier’s overcoat, road dust, black, the colour of mourning, scorched earth, red symbolizing blood and at the same time the future victory. The exposition has imitation of the penetrated tank armour on display, it helps perceive dreadful events of summer 1943 more emotionally.
Visitors of the museum-diorama can see documents, personal effects, photographs, awards of the Battle of Kursk participants donated from family archives, as well as those found during research by the museum staff and with the assistance of sponsors.
