The permanent exhibition at the Mezhdurechensk Museum of Local Lore showcases artifacts that display key everyday activities in the life of the Shors — the inhabitants of Gornaya (“Mountain”) Shoria.
The Shors are a small-numbering indigenous people of Russia. They belong linguistically to the family of Turkic peoples and live in the south of Kemerovo region. More than 80% of the Shor now live in an urban, industrialized setting and no longer maintain their inherited ways of life.
Only in a few taiga uluses, such as Ust-Anzas, Chelisu-Anzas, and Elbeze, traditional trades and crafts are still preserved, however, this way of life is gradually disappearing.
The exhibition features the tools that the Shors used in the old days when fishing, collecting honey (beekeeping), making boats and kitchen utensils, cooking, collecting and peeling cedar cones. The exhibits help trace the evolution of some Shor crafts, agriculture, and cattle breeding.
